SUMMARY:Embodiment and Holism: Reading the Poetry of The Song of Songs
DESCRIPTION:You will see this often-overlooked Old Testament book with new eyes as we seek to learn with Elaine T. James\, Associate Professor of Old Testament at Princeton Seminary. Her work focuses on the literature of the Hebrew Bible\, especially its poetry\, examining its significance in the ancient context and its legacy for the contemporary world. Guiding her research are questions about how artistic literary practices shape ethical and theological thought\, especially around issues of land\, ecology\, gender and sexuality. Her book\, Landscapes the Song of Songs (Oxford University Press\, 2017) is an exploration of how the Song of Songs conceptualizes the natural world. \nDr. James earned her PhD and MDiv from Princeton Theological Semi-nary. Before joining the faculty at\nPrinceton\, Dr. James previously served as Associate Professor of The-ology at St. Catherine University in St. Paul\, Minnesota. \nThe cost is $195.00 per person\, early registration before March 1st. \n\nIf registering between March 1 – April 15 the cost is $220.00 per person \nCost includes\, registration\, meals\, and lodg-ing at Laurelville Mennonite Church Center.\nLodging will be in the Lodge. Bring your own linens (bedding for single beds\,  pillow\, towels). (You may upgrade to a room at the Motel for a total additional fee of $75.00—a limited number of rooms are available on a first come basis)\nIf you are unable to attend the full event\, part-time registrations are accepted.
